“Après moi le déluge”

After me 'The Deluge'.
The statement was reminiscent.
And only man, and man alone
would feel so.
Failing to see  prophetic it is.
Cos, pride and arrogance are his forte!
Defiant to pitfalls and humbling,
selfish and convinced of his vitalness;
lessons never learned.
Only man and man alone can say
After me The Deluge!

Height of megalomania!

Short termism means you're always in fight or flight mode. It's now or never. It's me or no one.

I think the King prophetically said this about Indian politics. The way our politicians greedily amass wealth and fuck up the whole nation, it would be of no use or left with nothing after their days.

@ dr antony,

Indian politicians are a small mean lot with such disease. Out there in the society there are are far too many

@ kaalpanaique.

You are absolutely right. More than hubris it is mean and selfishness.

On an altogether different take, Anil, just consider the fascinating fact that the adage neither in English nor in French has the preceding words as in Malayalam: Enikku munp Andhakaaravum, Enikku sesham Pralayavum.... Darkness / a void preceded me and after me the deluge!!!

I once discussed this oddity with wannabewodehouse who too was clueless as to what made the malayali think so !

True. Thank u for bringing this subject. Apt for only man, apt for Malayali. Ashok Menath commented it right.

Reminiscence of history class…
It s from our History prof did I hear those words for the first time while teaching French Revolution…

Not absolutely foolish statement, right? Given the state affairs in France after the death of Louis XV…maybe he foresaw what was in store for France and said, “Après moi, le déluge”….
Anyways…. It s nice recollect the French Revolution classes aahhh

@ ashok,
Was that the "mallu" talk?
Who so ever God or man has immense ego and pride to think so!

anilkurup59 said...

@ Sukanya,

Mallu bashing Ha !!
Is' nt it a general trait running across cultures ?

@ insignia,
Man is lulled by his belief in his invincibility, coming out of arrogance of wealth , and power. The insatiable hunger and ravenous lust for wealth and power lulls him into
the feeling of omnipotence and infallibility.
And he never learns !!!

@ deeps,
Whether attributed to the King or his wife , the psyche is always there in man.
