The Origin

Sweating out in the sweltering sun
the mud pot taking the toll.
With porridge boiled and overflowing
Libations and offerings to the powers above!
Prompting of their munificence unlimited
And pleading for the elixir of longevity.

Jostling in the church to partake the sacrament
offering gifts galore.
Reminding the powers above
of the quid pro quo in deals of us mortals.

I pray to thee oh Lord
Give me the abundance of life,
for I shared my prise with you..
Though, thence the origins of ‘bribe’,
but forsake me not.

Haha I so loved this. Its not 'bribe' its ought to be called 'offerings' ;-)

I know what prompted you.The Pongala!

“Will a man rob God? Yet you rob me.

“But you ask, ‘How do we rob you?’

“In tithes and offerings".

@ doc antony,

No it is not the "pongala", alone. It is the proximity to the many of the kind, that offers a front row view.
