The spirit of the matter can be followed rather than going by the letter?In the bit I noted the act is not out of humbling of the ego, as there is no ego in her.But simply perplexing charcter.

I guess, majority of us of this generation and the next are trained to stand up for ourselves. Albeit, in a tactful manner. Violence only spurns more violence, doesn't end it.
Well difficult to explain the context and the mind set of the person. But it is not in the context of tit for tat . The basic question is should one smite you must you stand and invite another blow, why not walk away and keep some self respect? Well well'm quite poor in putting together the lines for people to understand.
